Watson Honanie, Sterling Silver & 14K Gold, Bear Belt Buckle
Only 1 was ever made
This is a substantial Belt Buckle. It weighs well over 5 oz of Sterling Silver and 14K Gold. The Buckle was entirely handmade by Watson Honanie using heavy gauge metals.
The center design in the Shadow Box is Twin Bears, Pines, Twin Peaks and a Rising Hopi Sunface... all handmade from 14K Gold. Surrounding the Gold Bears are Repeating Silver Water Symbols on the bottom of the Buckle and Bears, Elk and Buffalo all carved in Silver above the Gold.
The Buckle weighs about 5.62 ounces.
I can not measure the weight of each metal in a completed piecxe such as this... However, I would estimate there is about 4 oz silver here and 1 1/2 oz gold.
Watson Honanie is a Master Hopi Metalsmith. His art is published in "Beyond Tradition", by Jerry and Lois Jacka.
The 14k Gold Center Bears are set in a deep Shadow Box. 4 1/4" x 2 7/8"
