Description
Rachel Concho seed pot, June of 2001. Mrs. Concho at that time was in her late sixties (she was born in 1936) and was at the top of her game. A rare feat indeed, considering she had been working at such an exacting art for over 40 years. She is the sister of Joseph Cerno.
Rachel Concho had long been considered among Acoma's (indeed, the world's) finest potters.
And, as if to prove the point, she won "Best In Show" just 6 months earlier at the 2000 Santa Fe Indian Market. The most prestigious show of them all.
Here, in this pot, Butterflies appear to be emerging from or, perhaps entering into, the Flower which surrounds the opening. As your eyes travel down and around the bowl the butterflies disappear into the bowl's geometry.
This Rachael Concho Seed Bowl measures about 2 1/4" tall & 3 1/4" diameter
